During the strikes, at least one Russian Kh-101 missile crossed into Polish airspace and crashed near Tarnawa-Kolonia village in eastern Poland, creating a crater approximately 10 meters wide.[4] The missile was detected by Polish forces at 3:40 a.m., located roughly 80 to 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.[2][4] Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that "all the indications are that it was a Russian Kh-101 ballistic missile, but we want to be 100% certain about the type of missile and who launched it."[4] Poland's military dispatched F-16 fighters in response, with approximately 20 objects detected near Polish airspace during the incident.[4]
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously warned of preparations for a major Russian attack.[3] He subsequently emphasized that Ukraine faced "a severe shortage of air defense missiles," calling on allies to provide support.[3] This represented the latest in an intensifying campaign; Russian strikes have occurred nearly weekly since summer.[1]
