The National Energy Administration held a press conference on July 30 to outline its strategy for ensuring power system security and stability during the flood season. [1] The agency reported that typhoons and severe convective weather since July have caused blackouts affecting over 8 million households, with typhoons alone responsible for outages to more than 6.16 million users. [1] The power industry mobilized a combined workforce of over 68,000 personnel and more than 26,000 vehicles and equipment units for emergency repairs, and all affected users have been fully restored to service. [1]
The administration emphasized coordinated action across three fronts to protect power infrastructure during the critical period: strengthened flood prevention work, enhanced risk management for power grids, and improved emergency response procedures. [1] Zhejiang's power grid achieved full restoration for 81 percent of customers impacted by Typhoon Bavi within four hours. [1] Given heightened risks during this year's main flood season due to El Niño effects, authorities are intensifying monitoring of 84 key hydroelectric stations and basin flood conditions. [1]
