The 48th World Heritage Committee concluded on July 29, 2026, in Busan, South Korea, after opening on July 19.1 The meeting resulted in 25 new properties being inscribed on the World Heritage List, comprising 19 cultural heritage sites, 5 natural heritage sites, and 1 mixed heritage site.1 This brought the total number of world heritage properties to 1,273.1

Among the newly inscribed sites was China's Jingdezhen Ceramic Heritage of Craftsmanship, which became China's 61st world heritage site.1 The conference adopted the Busan World Heritage Declaration, which established international cooperation as a strategic objective and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in addressing multiple challenges facing world heritage.1 The number of states parties to the World Heritage Convention increased to 173, with South Sudan and Comoros joining for the first time.1 The next World Heritage Committee session is scheduled to take place in Istanbul, Turkey.1
