Kavinsky, the French electronic music producer whose 2011 hit "Nightcall" became synonymous with the film Drive, has been found dead at his home in Paris at age 50.[1] Born Vincent Belorgey in the Paris suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis in 1975, he was discovered on the evening of Tuesday, July 29.[1] Paris prosecutors' office indicated that no suspicious circumstances were detected at the scene and an investigation has been opened.[1]
Kavinsky's career reached international prominence through "Nightcall," which accumulated over one billion streams combined across Spotify and YouTube.[1] His 2013 album OutRun ranked second on the French albums chart.[1] A 2024 remix of "Nightcall" featuring Phoenix and Angèle reached third place on the same chart.[1] He performed at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.[1]
French Culture Minister Catherine Pégard said his music was "both danceable and nostalgic" and would "continue to resonate across generations and borders."[1] President Emmanuel Macron described Kavinsky as "forever a source of French pride."[1]
