China's commercial rocket sector raised 151.3 billion yuan in the first half of 2026, surpassing the entire previous year's total of 139.4 billion yuan and reaching 70.6% of the 2024 record of 214.2 billion yuan.[1] However, the capital distribution remains severely skewed: in the first quarter alone, the top 20 enterprises secured 77.8 billion yuan, accounting for 97% of all funding.[1] Across the industry's total 620 billion yuan in cumulative financing, just 24 leading companies captured 97%, while over 570 smaller firms shared less than 3%.[1]
This concentration reflects intensifying industry stratification. More than 70 small and medium-sized enterprises have ceased operations or been deregistered between 2024 and 2026, and investment professionals predict that over 40% of companies could exit within the next one to three years.[1] The sector faces critical talent shortages, with the industry currently employing approximately 300,000 people against a Ministry of Industry and Information Technology forecast of a 475,000-person deficit.[1] Experienced liquid-fueled rocket chief engineers number only in the low hundreds nationwide, while specialist positions command competitive compensation—liquid rocket engine chief engineers earn a median 820,000 yuan annually, and rocket recovery technology roles see the industry's highest wage growth at 24% year-over-year.[1]
Infrastructure constraints are becoming acute. Only one publicly accessible liquid-fueled launch pad for private commercial rockets exists: Hainan's Commercial Launch Facility 2.[1] The second half of 2026 represents a critical bottleneck period, with at least 29 planned commercial rocket launches demanding approximately 60 facilities total, yet current available capacity spans only 50 to 58 positions—a shortfall of 10 to 20 launches.[1] Blue Arrow Aerospace has emerged as a performance leader, completing two consecutive Zhuque-2E launches in the first half with only 27 days between missions, extending its success streak to eight consecutive flights and establishing itself as the only domestic liquid oxygen-methane rocket currently operating in the "continuous success" category.[1] Multiple leading companies are pursuing public listings, with Blue Arrow Aerospace and China Science Satellite seeking 7.5 billion yuan and 4.18 billion yuan respectively through Science and Technology Innovation Board inquiries, while Star Realm Power, Tianbing Technology, and Interstellar Glory have completed compliance guidance and are accelerating their capital market debuts.[1]
