Momenta, a Chinese autonomous driving company, obtained a nationwide Level 4 autonomous driving testing permit from Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) on July 29, marking the first time a Chinese enterprise has secured L4 testing authorization covering urban roads across the entire country.[1] The license enables the company to conduct autonomous operations on German city roads, establishing a significant foothold in the European market.
In tandem with the German regulatory approval, Momenta announced a strategic partnership with Uber in 2025, integrating its Robotaxi service into the Uber platform with Munich serving as the initial deployment city.[1] Under the collaboration, Uber has acquired approximately 1.1887 million Momenta shares through two transactions: 397,600 shares via Strategic Mobility Beta (SMB) and 791,055 shares from the company's C-round financing.[1]
Momenta's Robotaxi service operates using production-ready vehicles built on its R7 world model, which processes data from over 12 billion kilometers of driving experience and more than 100 million critical scenario segments.[1] Domestically, the company has already deployed Robotaxi services in Shanghai, Suzhou, and Wuxi, and recently obtained L4 testing authorization in Shenzhen in July.[1] The R7 platform supports multiple applications including autonomous ride-hailing, autonomous logistics, and autonomous driving features for consumer vehicles.[1]
