The 2026 APEC Digital and Artificial Intelligence Ministers' Conference convened in Chengdu, Sichuan, showcasing the practical applications of AI technology across multiple industries.[1] The event featured an exhibition with participants from 21 enterprises and industry institutions across China, the United States, Thailand, and other economies, displaying cutting-edge products including AI glasses, humanoid robots, and intelligent healthcare solutions.[1]
China's progress in the AI sector has accelerated significantly. The country's core artificial intelligence industry reached a scale of 1.2 trillion yuan in 2025, with the number of enterprises exceeding 6,200.[1] Among manufacturing enterprises of designated scale, artificial intelligence technology adoption exceeded 30 percent in 2025.[1] China has also established dominance in robotics, with humanoid robot products reaching over 400 models, accounting for more than half of the global total.[1] In the open-source model sector, cumulative downloads surpassed 10 billion globally, ranking first worldwide.[1]
Specific applications demonstrate AI's expanding role in service sectors. One AI healthcare agent, known as "Pixixi," has served 850,000 patient interactions, providing an average of 100,000 service instances monthly.[1] At the conference, participating economies endorsed the 2026 APEC Digital and Artificial Intelligence Ministers' Statement (Chengdu Statement), advancing consensus on leveraging digital and artificial intelligence technologies to support the Asia-Pacific community and strengthening international cooperation in these domains.[1]
