According to the prosecution, Rokomaqisa told accomplices that he and his cousin had "completed the task," with Rokomaqisa identifying himself as the driver.[1] In intercepted phone calls, the defendant allegedly stated he was owed $200,000 for "this thing," referring to what prosecutors argue was payment for Hamze's murder.[1] The killing occurred against the backdrop of a violent conflict between the Hamzy organized crime network and the rival Alameddine network, with prosecutors contending the murder was retaliation for an Alameddine associate shot dead ten days earlier.[1]
Evidence presented to the jury includes DNA found on items inside an abandoned Mercedes-Benz, which police discovered parked illegally on August 14, 2021, the same day a planned murder attack on Ibrahem Hamze was thwarted.[1] Rokomaqisa denies involvement in any crimes.[1] His defense lawyer Nicole Carroll has questioned key aspects of the prosecution case, asking the jury: "How would the shooter know Bilal Hamze would be there at 10:20 pm on June 17?"[1]
