Interim President Wayne A. I. Frederick of Howard University announced that more than 200 first-year students have been readmitted following a mass unenrollment crisis that affected the institution earlier this year.[1] The university had initially rescinded admission for over 500 incoming students in the fall semester due to outstanding financial obligations and incomplete immunization records.[1]
The readmissions came after extensive communication between the university and affected students and their families.[1] Frederick stated that "Howard adhered to its policies or procedures," emphasizing that the institution had made clear communications regarding financial obligations, with a payment deadline in mid-July.[1] Among the approximately 37,000 students who applied to Howard, roughly 2,200 first-year students retained their admission status following the removal of the 502 students.[1]
