China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has issued a directive prohibiting the installation of "blue lights" used to indicate assisted driving status on passenger vehicles.1 The ban stems from the lights' non-compliance with the GB4785 national standard, which permits only white, yellow, red, and amber colors.1
Effective immediately from the MIIT's 410th batch product announcement applications, testing institutions are barred from approving vehicle models equipped with blue lights for product certification.1 Additionally, from July 27, 2026, the country will enforce a full prohibition on blue lights for newly certified vehicle models.1 The National Automotive Standardization Committee will issue supplementary requirements to the GB4785 standard, and the MIIT is formulating handling measures for vehicles already sold with these lights.1 Geely Automobile stated it will strictly comply with the national regulations.1
