Shenzhen's major construction projects have emerged as a critical stabilizer for the city's investment landscape amid broader economic headwinds.[1] In the first half of 2026, these flagship initiatives accumulated 168.49 billion yuan in investment, achieving a progress rate of 54.5% and surpassing the midyear target.[1] This performance stands in sharp contrast to the city's overall fixed asset investment, which declined 14.6% year-on-year during the same period.[1] Excluding real estate development investment, the contraction narrowed to 7.7%.[1]
The city has established an annual investment plan of 309.1 billion yuan for major construction projects in 2026.[1] Progress through May reached 134.34 billion yuan with a 43.5% completion rate, followed by 34.15 billion yuan invested in June alone.[1] Infrastructure investment showed resilience, expanding 10.1% in the first half of the year.[1] Looking ahead, Shenzhen has designated 832 major projects for 2026 with a combined investment value of approximately 3.2 trillion yuan.[1] To reinforce its investment momentum, the city plans to add supplementary major projects beyond those initially planned.[1]
