On July 28, SAIC Volkswagen released a social media post comparing its EA211 golden extended-range engine, featured in the ID.ERA 9X model, against Xiaomi's Kunlun extended-range unit in response to Xiaomi's marketing campaign [1]. The two powertrains were detailed side-by-side across fuel compatibility, warranty coverage, fuel consumption, and driving range metrics.
Both systems demonstrate identical multi-fuel capability, supporting 92, 95, and 98 octane gasoline [1]. However, their warranty policies diverge: Xiaomi's Kunlun extended-range unit and battery systems carry an eight-year or 160,000-kilometer coverage, while SAIC Volkswagen extends this advantage by adding lifetime vehicle warranty [1]. In efficiency terms, Xiaomi's Phaeton series achieves a minimum fuel consumption of 5.7 liters per 100 kilometers, whereas the ID.ERA 9X registers 6.27 liters per 100 kilometers [1].
Battery capacity and electric-only range also favor the Xiaomi offering: the Phaeton series' maximum battery reaches 76 kilowatt-hours with a 505-kilometer CLTC pure electric driving range, compared to the ID.ERA 9X's 65.2 kilowatt-hour battery and 406-kilometer CLTC range [1]. The ID.ERA 9X launched on April 25 [1], while Xiaomi's Phaeton technical presentation is scheduled for July 30 at 7 p.m. [1].
