Xiaomi founder Lei Jun has publicly addressed criticism over the company's extended-range vehicle strategy and the timing of its market entry.[1] Lei Jun argued that the extended-range vehicle market remains far from saturation, citing the sustained sales growth of Li Auto's new-generation L6 model as evidence of genuine consumer demand.[1]
According to Lei Jun, Xiaomi's Chengdu series adopted the extended-range solution due to specific product definition requirements.[1] The vehicles in this lineup offer a pure electric range of up to 505 kilometers under CLTC standards.[1] The extended-range systems deliver fuel consumption rates of as low as 5.7 liters per 100 kilometers for the N70 series and 6.26 liters per 100 kilometers for the four-wheel-drive N90 series when running on fuel alone.[1] Additionally, the extended-range engine requires maintenance only after three years or 30,000 kilometers of operation.[1]
Lei Jun highlighted that the new Li Auto L6 has experienced robust sales momentum since its launch without negatively impacting sales of the Li Auto i6 model, indicating strong market viability for extended-range vehicles.[1] Xiaomi has scheduled a technical briefing on its extended-range system for July 30.[1]
