South Australian police are investigating the deaths of 36-year-old Helena Wright and her 23-month-old daughter as a suspected murder-suicide following the discovery of both bodies in the ocean west of Port Macdonnell on Monday.[1] The investigation comes after a vehicle was found abandoned at the scene on Monday morning at 11:15 a.m. with its engine still running.[1] A three-month-old boy who disappeared alongside the mother and his sister remains missing, and after three days of combined land and sea search operations in the area near Cape Northumberland, police have indicated that the likelihood of finding the infant alive has diminished to near zero.[1]
Superintendent Trent Cox stated on Wednesday that "the reality is, after three days, the probability of locating the baby alive is zero."[1] Authorities have characterized their investigation as treating the incident as a murder-suicide case based on available evidence.[1] The search effort has been significantly hampered by extreme weather conditions.[1] Helena Wright was originally from Estonia.[1]
