China's Ministry of Civil Affairs has made significant progress in its ongoing effort to combat illegal social organizations during the first half of 2026.[1] Civil affairs departments at all levels nationwide have cumulatively disposed of 702 illegal social organizations.[1] The disposition methods varied, with 163 organizations listed as suspected illegal entities or included in cooperation notices, 63 forcibly dissolved, 399 ordered to cease operations, and 77 guided toward legal registration.[1]
The campaign has targeted organizations that falsely claim official backgrounds and endorsements.[1] Specific groups subject to legal dissolution included the China Education Research Society, the National Work Guidance Committee for Production-Education Integration, the China New Era Cultural Strategy Research Institute, and the China Cultural Education Research Center.[1] Regional authorities in Beijing, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, and Guizhou successfully handled multiple cases of illegal social organizations through coordinated multi-agency enforcement operations.[1] The Ministry has also made public disclosure of two batches comprising 17 typical cases involving illegal social organizations to heighten awareness and deter such activities.[1]
