The China Meteorological Administration issued forecasts indicating that central China, southern China, and the Sichuan Basin will experience significant rainfall over the next three days, with some areas expecting torrential downpours [1]. Simultaneously, Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Inner Mongolia are anticipated to face widespread severe convective weather, including thunderstorms, damaging winds, and hail [1].
Recent observations documented heavy rainfall across multiple regions, with Guangdong, Hunan, Hubei, Henan, Shandong, and Heilongjiang experiencing heavy to torrential precipitation [1]. The maximum cumulative rainfall reached 179.1 millimeters in Yichang, Hubei, while hourly precipitation peaked between 40 and 87.9 millimeters [1]. Moving forward, heavy to torrential rains are expected in Henan, Hubei, Shandong, Guangdong, Sichuan, and Yunnan provinces, with localized extraordinarily heavy downpours of 100 to 240 millimeters forecast for southwestern Guangdong, southwestern Sichuan Basin, central-western Henan, and northeastern Jilin [1]. Parts of northeastern Jilin may experience damaging winds exceeding force 10, with gusts potentially reaching force 11 and above [1].
The China Meteorological Administration issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall and a blue alert for severe convective weather on July 29 at 6 a.m. [1], urging preparedness against secondary hazards including flash floods, geological disasters, and flooding in small to medium-sized rivers [1].
