New South Wales police executed a raid on a suspected gang stronghold in Sydney's Glenfield district on Tuesday, recovering an arsenal of military-grade weapons and a substantial drug cache.[1] Officers from the Taskforce Falcon special operations unit seized six hand grenades, three semi-automatic rifles, four shotguns, one handgun, and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition.[1] The operation also resulted in the discovery of drugs valued at AUD 3 million, comprising 6 kilograms of cocaine, 15 kilograms of cannabis, 1.1 kilograms of heroin, 107 grams of MDMA, 1 kilogram of ketamine, and AUD 9,000 in cash.[1]
Two individuals were arrested at the scene.[1] A 26-year-old man faces multiple charges including assault with a dangerous weapon, unlicensed possession of three or more unregistered firearms, and drug trafficking, and was refused bail.[1] A 26-year-old woman was charged with organizing and operating a drug premises and was granted bail.[1] NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley commented on the operation, stating: "We do not want these weapons in our community, and I thank police for their hard work in removing them from the hands of criminals."[1] Since its establishment in May of last year, Taskforce Falcon has been responsible for 683 arrests and over 1,700 charges.[1]
