To address long-term water challenges, the city has invested approximately one billion dollars in water supply initiatives.[1] These efforts include groundwater wells that produce roughly 13 million gallons daily of treated brackish water.[1] The city is also considering a desalination project with an estimated cost near one billion dollars, with a decision expected by September 1.[1] If Level 1 emergency status is triggered, users would be required to reduce water consumption by 25 percent, with household monthly limits dropping from 8,000 gallons to 6,000 gallons.[1]
