On Tuesday, most private filling stations remained shuttered, with only government-operated facilities continuing to serve the public.[1] Households are now limited to two weekly refueling visits of 40 liters each.[1] At one gas station, 36,000 liters delivered in the morning had already served approximately 300 vehicles, with operators estimating capacity for another 700 to 800 cars.[1] Some drivers, including Twana Mohammed, have spent four days searching for fuel.[1] The crisis comes as temperatures have climbed to 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit), intensifying the strain on residents.[1]
In response to the crisis, Kurdish Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has appealed to Iraq's central government in Baghdad to increase the region's crude oil allocation from 50,000 barrels per day to approximately 126,700 barrels per day.[1]
