POV: You live alone in NYC and have no friends so this is how you spend your Friday night"的视频已获得超过1100万次观看,她在Instagram上拥有超过32万粉丝。[1]
A growing trend has emerged on social media platforms, where young women are gaining substantial viewership by posting content about their solitary lifestyles and lack of friendships.[1] Paulina Cee, who has over 320,000 Instagram followers, posted a video titled "POV: You live alone in NYC and have no friends so this is how you spend your Friday night," which accumulated over 11 million views.[1]
While psychologists note that such content can help destigmatize solitude, experts warn of potential downsides.[1] The trend risks normalizing prolonged social isolation among young people at a time when research indicates that social withdrawal increases risks of heart disease, mental illness, and premature death.[1] According to a 2025 World Health Organization study, between 17 and 21 percent of respondents aged 13 to 29 reported experiencing loneliness, with the highest rates appearing among teenagers.[1] Additionally, the WHO estimates that approximately one-quarter of young people are affected by social isolation.[1] A Nivea-commissioned study across 13 countries found that 24 percent of people aged 16 to 24 felt socially isolated, compared to 19 percent across all age groups.[1]
Pushback against the trend has been limited in reach. Psychotherapist Phil Lane responded on Instagram by stating, "Loneliness influencers, stop trying to make loneliness aesthetic, it's not going to work," though his post garnered only approximately 900 views.[1]
