Fourteen fourth-grade students from Oasis Primary School in Shenzhen's Futian District participated in the "Little Dandelion Walking Futian" activity, taking on roles as junior volunteers to inspect municipal conditions and promote waste sorting in the Shazui community [1]. Averaging just 10 years old, the students donned volunteer vests and conducted environmental patrols at garbage disposal points and along commercial streets throughout the neighborhood [1].
Organized by Futian District's Urban Management and Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau, the initiative brought together 11 community volunteers and four teachers to guide the students' efforts [1]. During their patrols, the young volunteers engaged in environmental checks and civility advocacy while disseminating waste sorting knowledge to residents, including the principle that food waste should be emptied from bags before disposal [1]. Through this hands-on social practice, the students transformed classroom learning into community engagement, simultaneously raising awareness of proper waste classification among local residents [1].
