The activist group Led By Donkeys has secured £27,216 in compensation from Veolia following the confiscation and destruction of a massive protest banner at Parliament Square in London.[1] The 40-meter by 40-meter banner, which read "Yes it's a Genocide," was seized on December 4, 2024, after 19 months of legal pursuit.[1]
Ben Stewart, a spokesperson for Led By Donkeys, stated that "The Parliament Square banner was in collaboration with one of the world's leading genocide scholars, but still the authorities threw process out the window and simply seized and destroyed our property."[1] Stewart further argued that "Palestine protests are treated differently in Britain to all other forms of activism," highlighting what the group views as discriminatory enforcement against pro-Palestinian demonstrations.[1]
According to a report by the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights, over 900 instances of Palestinian solidarity activism have been "silenced, criminalized and sanctioned" in Britain over the past six years.[1]
