Pop singer Ariana Grande has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles court against unidentified hackers accused of stealing unreleased music, private photographs, and studio videos.[1][2] The defendants, referred to collectively as "John Doe," allegedly breached the accounts of Grande's collaborators in 2023 to obtain 45 unreleased songs, which were subsequently sold on the dark web.[1][2] In addition to the music theft, the hackers are reported to have used deceptive tactics, impersonating photographers to trick employees into sending Grande's personal photos.[2]
According to the lawsuit, the hackers gained access to unreleased master recordings, demos, and studio footage after infiltrating the mobile device of a music producer working with Grande in 2025.[1] The artist has pursued legal action to identify those responsible and hold them accountable.[2] Grande's legal claims include privacy violations, violations of California's computer fraud statutes, and theft.[1] She noted that similar leaks of her unreleased material have occurred hundreds of times since her 2011 debut.[1]
The lawsuit arrives as Grande prepares to release her eighth studio album, Petal, this week.[1][2] The Grammy-nominated artist, who has received 20 Grammy nominations and won 3 awards, is currently on a world tour scheduled to include ten nights at London's O2 Arena beginning August 15th.[2]
