Pauline Hanson, leader of Australia's One Nation party, has updated her parliamentary pecuniary interests register to disclose that billionaire mining magnate Gina Rinehart funded flights between London, Rome, and Sicily, as well as a fashion show invitation, during a recent European trip.[1][2] Hanson maintained that taxpayers bore no cost for the journey, stating "It didn't cost the taxpayer one cent for my trip overseas. Not one cent."[1] She disclosed that she personally covered accommodation, meals, and daily expenses while traveling through Italy.[1][2] However, the source of funding for the initial flight from Australia to London remains undisclosed in the updated register.[2]
The trip occurred between July 11 and 16, with Hanson staying at the five-star Grand Hotel San Pietro in Taormina, Sicily.[1][2] The disclosure followed the emergence of photographs showing Hanson and Rinehart together during their vacation at the resort.[1] Beyond the European travel support, Rinehart's commercial associates include former Northern Territory Chief Minister Adam Giles and climate skeptic Ian Plimer, who together have donated two million Australian dollars in cash.[1] Additionally, Hanson received a Cirrus G7 aircraft gifted by Rinehart in April 2024, valued at approximately 1.3 million Australian dollars.[1]
