As the union movement faces new challenges, McManus has identified cost of living pressures, artificial intelligence's impact on employment, and wealth inequality as key issues her successors will need to address. 2 Australia's union membership currently stands at approximately 1.6 million members, comprising around 853,000 women and 726,000 men, representing 13.1 percent of the workforce in 2024, a slight increase from 12.5 percent in 2022. 2
