The China Meteorological Administration has issued warnings as the residual system of Typhoon Hongxia persists in impacting areas across southern and central China [1]. From July 28 to 30, heavy to torrential rainfall is forecast to strike Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Hunan, and Hubei provinces, with some regions experiencing exceptionally heavy downpours ranging from 100 to 220 millimeters [1]. The rainfall pattern is expected to extend to southeastern Guangdong, southeastern Fujian, central Hubei, western Henan, and southern Yunnan [1].
Meteorological authorities have already recorded localized extreme precipitation during the initial phase of the system's impact, with Zhangzhou in Fujian receiving 264.1 millimeters of rainfall, while certain areas in Guangxi experienced maximum hourly rainfall exceeding 109.7 millimeters [1]. In response to the developing weather situation, the China Meteorological Administration issued a yellow alert for rainstorms and a blue alert for severe convective weather at 6:00 AM on July 28 [1]. Authorities have warned of heightened risks of mountain floods, geological disasters, and flooding in small to medium-sized river systems [1]. Additionally, some areas face the threat of thunderstorms with winds exceeding 8 levels or hail, while portions of central and eastern Heilongjiang may experience maximum wind speeds reaching 11 levels or above [1].
