An inquest will proceed into the 2013 death of Breeana Robinson, a 21-year-old cheerleader for the Gold Coast Titans NRL team, who fell from a high-rise balcony in Southport.[1][2] Robinson died on January 29, 2013, and her death was initially investigated as a suicide, though her family has questioned whether third-party involvement occurred.[2]
Her former partner, Jayden Moorea (also known as Daniel Shearin), was charged with murder in 2019 but all charges were withdrawn in 2023 due to insufficient evidence.[1][2] Court findings revealed that Robinson's relationship with Moorea involved "emotional abuse, coercive control, stalking and surveillance behaviour," and he attempted to access her bank and superannuation accounts days after her death.[1][2] Notably, on the day she died, Robinson appeared "happy and hopeful," including attending a dance class that morning.[2]
The formal inquest is scheduled to run for two weeks in October 2026, with more than 40 witnesses expected to testify, including family members, friends, police and biomechanics experts.[1] The Brisbane Coroners Court will conduct the full hearing to determine the circumstances surrounding Robinson's death.[1]
