Michael O'Hara, a hotelier and operator of multiple venues in bars and gambling businesses, testified before the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) that supporting a faction within NSW's Liberal Party was a "mistake."[1] The investigation alleges that O'Hara, classified as a prohibited donor due to his industry interests, concealed and exceeded legal political donation limits through his company Paslibdan Pty Ltd in an attempt to influence the composition of party membership.[1]
O'Hara expressed shock and disgust at allegations involving members of the NSW Reformers faction.[1] During the Operation Rosny hearing, he stated: "I thought they were good people... I made a mistake supporting them because they've clearly lost the moral bottom line."[1] The donations were disguised as consulting fees for "strategic wealth strategy investment advice."[1] O'Hara indicated he had ceased funding the group of young Liberal Party power brokers after concluding that figures including Scott Morrison and Dominic Perrottet had "gone woke."[2]
The ICAC investigation, scheduled to run for eight weeks, is examining alleged corrupt conduct related to NSW Liberal Party figures.[1] Dominic Perrottet referred the allegations to ICAC in 2022 and is not the subject of any misconduct accusations.[1]
