Australia's Royal Commission into Antisemitism and Social Cohesion is entering its sixth hearing phase, with plans to examine how education, training, and policy frameworks can address antisemitism across schools, workplaces, healthcare, and the arts sector.[1] A dedicated taskforce on antisemitism education has proposed establishing a "social cohesion centre" at an estimated cost of 6 million Australian dollars over five years.[1]
The commission has documented several incidents underpinning its inquiry. In February 2025, two New South Wales nurses faced allegations over threatening remarks directed at an Israeli patient.[1] Following the October 7, 2023 events, some institutions demanded the removal of posters supporting Israeli hostages and Hebrew language items.[1] On October 9, 2023, a pro-Palestinian march in Sydney from Town Hall to the Opera House featured antisemitic slogans.[1] Royal Commissioner Virginia Bell indicated there are opportunities for police to improve their response to antisemitic conduct at protests.[1]
The seventh hearing phase will focus specifically on antisemitic speech at the October 9, 2023 Sydney demonstration and a neo-Nazi gathering held outside Parliament House the previous year.[1]
