BoM meteorologist Angus Hines identified a follow-up band of storms associated with the front as particularly intense. 1 “It’s this follow-up band of storms which could pack a punch,” Hines said. 1 He noted that while very active storms are expected later in the day, they may not move out toward the east coast until the evening hours. 1

The impact is forecast to begin on Saturday afternoon, when Victoria and inland New South Wales will be significantly affected. 1 By Sunday, the storm belt is expected to shift northeastward, impacting Canberra, the Sydney region, and southern Queensland. 1 Residents in these areas face risks including flash flooding, large hailstones, and property damage or fallen trees caused by the high winds. 1
