A report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) states that Gulf nations must reconfigure their trillion-dollar defence systems following economic damage sustained during the war between the United States and Iran. The analysis suggests that the value of US military bases is questionable given Iranian attacks and calls for a reassessment of reliance on high-cost defensive capabilities 1.
In the weeks prior to the ceasefire on April 8, twelve regional countries faced numerous Iranian drone and ballistic missile strikes. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) suffered the heaviest impact, with nearly half of the attacks targeting it. The arsenal included 4,670 Iranian suicide drones and over 1,400 ballistic missiles. Although most projectiles were intercepted, estimated losses to energy infrastructure reached up to $58 billion (£43bn) 1.
