Cristian Volpato, an Australian national team footballer, was pulled over twice by police in Sydney for speeding and tested positive for cocaine following a roadside drug test, authorities allege.[1] The 22-year-old player, who represented Australia at the World Cup, was first stopped on Thursday at 11:05 p.m. for exceeding the speed limit, and then again on Friday at 1:10 a.m. on the Anzac Bridge, where he was driving at 109 km/h—approximately 50 km/h over the posted limit.[1]
Following the second traffic stop, police conducted a roadside drug screening that returned a positive result for cocaine.[1] As a consequence, Volpato's driving license was suspended for six months.[1] He currently plays for Italian club Sassuolo, having switched his international allegiance to Australia prior to the World Cup.[1]
