San Juan County in New Mexico has already experienced severe flooding, with some areas losing electrical power and recovery expected to take several days.1 Sheriff Shane Ferrari's home in the county was inundated with approximately four feet of water.1 Although rivers are receding, they have left behind sediment contaminated with sewage.1 According to San Juan County spokesperson Devin Neeley, there are currently no official casualty reports.1 The flooding has been fueled by tropical moisture from the Pacific, arriving after months of drought conditions that had previously made the Grand Canyon region vulnerable to deadly flash flooding.1
