Xu has composed over one hundred instrumental pieces and fifteen songs for the classic 1986 "Journey to the West" series.1 In his statement, Xu expressed deep concern about the broader implications for the creative community, asking: "If platforms continue to tolerate copyright infringement and unauthorized alterations of original music works, how can original musicians focus on creation, and what path lies ahead for their survival and development?"1
This incident reflects Xu's long-standing commitment to protecting his musical works. In 2014, when his composition "Daughter's Love" was used in the film "Passengers," Xu received 30,000 yuan in composer royalties, marking his highest income from licensing in twenty-eight years outside of his regular compensation.1 His copyright enforcement efforts have yielded substantial results: in 2016, he successfully sued Langang Interactive and secured damages of over 175,000 yuan; in 2018, he took legal action against Maitian Film and Tencent, ultimately reaching a settlement.1 Additionally, a "Journey to the West" theme concert held at the Great Hall of the People on December 4, 2016, raised 4.615 million yuan through crowdfunding.1
