British Prime Minister Andy Burnham welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Portsmouth Naval Base just seven days into his tenure, underscoring Britain's unwavering commitment to Ukraine regardless of political transitions at home.[1][2] Burnham emphasized that Zelenskyy's visit was deliberately chosen as his first international engagement, stating that "We are with Ukraine 100%, I am personally with you 100%, and I will honour every commitment this country has made to Ukraine in full."[1][2]
The meeting highlighted a significant military partnership between the two nations. The UK announced it would supply "Stone Cloak" electronic jamming technology to enhance Ukraine's long-range strike capabilities, with thousands of these devices already delivered to Kyiv.[2] Since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Britain has provided Ukraine with £25 billion in total assistance, including £16 billion in direct military aid.[2] Burnham is the fifth British Prime Minister that Zelenskyy has engaged with since the war began.[2] Following his UK visit, the Ukrainian president was scheduled to travel to Washington for a meeting with U.S. President Trump on Tuesday.[2]
