Singer D4vd, whose real name is David Burke, was ordered to stand trial on charges of murdering 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.[2] Los Angeles Judge Charlaine Olmedo ruled there was sufficient evidence to proceed, finding probable cause on counts of murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and illegal disposal of human remains.[2] Prosecutors alleged that Burke killed and dismembered Hernandez on April 23, 2025, after she threatened to expose their relationship and damage his music career.[2] Her remains were discovered in September 2025 in the trunk of a Tesla registered to Burke.[2] The 21-year-old defendant pleaded not guilty and will face a bail hearing on August 31, with trial to begin within 90 days thereafter.[4] Prosecutor Beth Silverman stated that "based on the mountains of evidence presented, all of the allegations have been proved way beyond the standard required."[2]
Colt Gray, 16, entered guilty pleas to 55 charges, including murder, stemming from a September 4, 2024, shooting at Apalachee High School near Atlanta, Georgia.[3] The attack killed two teachers, Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53, and two students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14 years old; an additional teacher and eight students were wounded, with seven struck by gunfire.[3] During trial proceedings, forensic psychologist Kevin Richards testified that Gray had a chaotic childhood marked by family poverty and parental drug use, and became obsessed with mass shootings through online communities, particularly fixating on Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz, whose image he had saved over 2,000 times on his phone.[3] Richards stated, "I don't think he was driven by hallucinations or delusions to do what he did. I think he planned it out."[3] Gray's father, Colin Gray, was convicted this week on charges including second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter; prosecutors said he supplied the assault rifle used in the shooting.[3]
