Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff, 36, was shot at near a football field in the upscale Juhu neighborhood of Mumbai, with his driver and a cameraman sustaining injuries in the incident 1. Police arrested ten suspects in connection with the shooting 1.
Social media screenshots attributed to associates of Lawrence Bishnoi, a north Indian gang leader, claimed responsibility for the attack, citing Shroff's alleged connections to actor Shah Rukh Khan as the motive 1. An audio recording featuring a man identifying himself as Anil Pandit reiterated this claim 1.
The incident has reignited concerns about organized crime's resurgence in India's film industry, evoking memories of the 1990s and early 2000s when Mumbai's underworld wielded significant influence over Bollywood 1. That era saw high-profile violence including the 1997 murder of music mogul Gulshan Kumar and the 2000 attempted assassination of director Rakesh Roshan 1. More recent incidents attributed to the same gang networks include five gunshots fired outside Shah Rukh Khan's Mumbai residence in April 2024 and the October 2024 murder of political figure Baba Siddique 1.
