China's Aluminum Corporation of China Limited (Chalco) has decided to set up a corporate treasury center in Hong Kong, to be known as Chalco Group Treasury Management Limited 1. The center will serve as the group's offshore fund management platform, handling centralized offshore capital management, offshore financing, and currency and interest rate risk management, alongside comprehensive financial services 1.
The treasury center aims to leverage Hong Kong's position as the world's largest offshore Chinese yuan hub to advance the group's overseas operations 1. According to Liu Kai-hsuan, director of the Hong Kong Investment Promotion Agency, Hong Kong can provide enterprises with cross-border Chinese yuan settlement, multi-currency fund management, and risk hedging capabilities 1.
