A BBC investigation has documented systematic destruction of the medical system in El Fasher, a city in Darfur, during and after the Rapid Support Forces' (RSF) siege and takeover approximately one year ago.1 The inquiry identified at least 43 separate attacks on hospitals and medical facilities between May 2024 and October 2025.1 These assaults resulted in 120 healthcare workers injured, 55 killed, and 10 forcibly disappeared or abducted.1
The findings have drawn international concern. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights stated the results are "deeply disturbing" and that the RSF's repeated attacks on civilian and medical infrastructure may constitute war crimes and serious violations of international humanitarian law.1 Physicians working in affected facilities described extreme conditions, including days when Al-Saud Teaching Hospital experienced up to 25 artillery strikes and precision-guided drone attacks.1 On October 25, 2025, an RSF raid on Al-Saud Maternity Hospital resulted in allegations that over 460 patients and accompanying family members died.1
The RSF has rejected the investigation's conclusions. The RSF's health minister denied the BBC's findings, characterizing them as propaganda and defamation.1
