The exchange reflects Google's apparent willingness to comply with some of Trump's naming requests while drawing a line at larger geographic features. Google has already implemented name changes on its Maps platform used by American users, including renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America" and Lake Ontario to "Lake America" following Trump's executive orders 2. Trump has also previously proposed renaming the Strait of Hormuz the "Trump Strait" 2.
