Federal wildlife authorities have launched an investigation following the emergence of video footage depicting what appears to be a person kicking a protected sea lion at La Jolla Cove in San Diego, California.[1] The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Fisheries Enforcement Office is leading the examination of the case.[1] Sea lions are protected under the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act, and NOAA guidelines require visitors to maintain a distance of at least 50 feet from the animals.[1]
