A survey commissioned by Origina has revealed significant financial inefficiency in how large enterprises manage their software spending.1 According to the report titled "The Software Tax," companies allocate an average of 28 percent of their software budgets to unnecessary upgrades, migrations, and licensing changes.1 Many IT leaders overseeing these expenditures believe these changes are counterproductive to their organizations' interests.1
The research examined decision-making practices among 2,018 chief information officers and senior IT executives from major corporations in the United States and the United Kingdom.1 All surveyed enterprises reported annual revenues of at least one billion dollars and employed a minimum of 10,000 workers.1 Approximately half of the respondents, comprising 1,011 participants, were based in the United States, while the remaining executives represented UK-based organizations.1
