研究论文题为《观察观察者:美国智能电视自动内容识别的隐私分析》("Watching the Watchers: Privacy Analysis of US Smart TV Automatic Content Recognition"),于周一发布1。
Researchers at Northeastern University have published findings indicating that smart televisions from major manufacturers continue transmitting data to automatic content recognition (ACR) endpoints even after users disable tracking features.1 The study examined 12 smart TVs across 8 different operating systems manufactured by 10 companies—Amazon, Hisense, LG, Roku, Samsung, Sony, Supersonic, TCL, Vizio, and Westinghouse—and identified what appears to be problematic privacy practices.1
ACR technology captures video screenshots or audio segments to measure content viewership and enable targeted advertising delivery.1 The research, titled "Watching the Watchers: Privacy Analysis of US Smart TV Automatic Content Recognition," was released Monday and documents instances where Samsung, Vizio, Roku, and other brands generated what researchers characterized as "suspicious" network traffic directed toward ACR systems despite users having opted out of tracking.1 These findings suggest potential violations of user privacy expectations and raise questions about the effectiveness of tracking opt-out mechanisms on smart TV platforms.1
