霍尔的律师纳加·坎迪亚表示1:"内政部无法还给我的委托人17年的人生。"此次驱逐令的撤销为这名男子长期以来的不确定困境画上了句号1。
The UK Home Office has rescinded its deportation order against Tony Hall, a 62-year-old who has resided in Britain for 50 years.1 Hall arrived in London at age 12 in 1976 as a descendant of Windrush generation migrants.1 After serving an eight-year prison sentence for a 2001 robbery conspiracy conviction and illegal firearm possession, he faced deportation threats for 17 years following his release in 2009.1
The prolonged uncertainty proved particularly severe, as he was barred from employment, housing, and healthcare throughout the deportation process.1 In January 2010, Hall was placed on a flight bound for Barbados but returned to the UK on the same aircraft.1 His case gained attention through intervention by Clive Foster, chair of the Windrush Defenders committee, ultimately prompting the Home Office to reverse its decision.1 The department formally withdrew the deportation order on Tuesday.1
Hall's lawyer, Naga Kandia, underscored the irreversible harm inflicted by the prolonged limbo, stating: "The Home Office cannot return to my client 17 years of his life."1
