Coughlan, who initially denied the charge, changed his plea to guilty on Tuesday.1 According to prosecutor Adam Vaitilingam KC, the killing was "a carefully planned and cold-blooded execution."1 Justice Linden stated during sentencing that Collins "was caught totally unaware by you and was utterly defenceless."1 Coughlan reported discovering the body to police at 2 a.m.1
Both men were final-year students at UWE Bristol studying robotics.1 Coughlan owned the three-bedroom house, valued at £300,000, where the two lived together.1
