The Shenzhen Public Culture and Arts Creation Center hosted the 28th installment of its "36 Jinhu Street · Cultural Forum" on the afternoon of October 19, bringing together young artists from multiple cultural institutions to discuss how artistic creation takes root and flourishes within the urban landscape.1 The forum, themed "Me and My City: The Mutual Growth of Young Artists and Shenzhen," centered on how young creators can employ the city itself as a methodology to generate vital local artistic expression.1
Participants engaged in substantive dialogue across three key dimensions: preserving tradition, pursuing contemporary innovation, and documenting urban experience through art.1 Lin Kunchen articulated a vision of artistic presence, asserting that "young artists must achieve simultaneous presence in body, thought, and expression."1 He criticized prevailing tendencies in current creation, identifying "aesthetic homogeneity" and "thematic orientations that have bred a safe aesthetic" as limiting forces in artistic practice.1 Zhang Qin traced Shenzhen's artistic trajectory, noting that since the 1990s the city's visual art scene has generated distinctive local subjects including "urban landscape painting and contemporary ink art."1
Zhou Tianrang underscored the distinction between artistic responsiveness and conformity, explaining that "evolving with the city" does not constitute mere acquiescence but rather the transformation of urban change into artistic methodology.1 Ren Sixi emphasized the enduring primacy of human perception in creative work, stating that "technology is merely a medium of expression; human sensory experience remains irreplaceable."1
