Chinese listed company Chinese Online released a report indicating that within China's domestic AI computing power consumption, 55% is allocated to short drama and video generation, 24% to e-commerce advertising, and only 15% to research and development.1 The consumption of AI tokens for short drama and video production has already exceeded that of software development by more than twofold.1
The global micro-short drama market is projected to reach nearly $1.8 billion in 2025, with China accounting for over $1.4 billion, representing 77.78% of the global market share.1 The growth trajectory is particularly steep, as the number of micro-short dramas launched domestically in China from January to August 2026 reached 430,000, marking a thirteenfold increase compared to the entire year of 2025.1 AI deepfake dramas typically consume 2 to 3 times more tokens than AI animated dramas.1
However, ByteDance's Doubao platform disputes these findings. A public relations representative for the company, Liu Xing, responded that only approximately 10% of the company's total computing power is used for training and inference of video generation models.1
