Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China's Central Committee, held talks with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Petrova in Sofia on October 19th.1 The two officials conducted in-depth discussions on planning high-level exchanges and advancing practical cooperation across various sectors, reaching broad consensus on topics including Belt and Road Initiative cooperation, the alignment of the Middle Corridor, and China-Central and Eastern Europe cooperation.1
Both sides emphasized adherence to the one-China principle, mutual respect, and pragmatic cooperation during the meeting.1 Wang Yi stated that "Europe and China are partners, not rivals, and represent development opportunities rather than challenges for each other."1 Petrova reaffirmed that Bulgaria has long maintained and will continue to steadfastly uphold the one-China policy.1 The officials also exchanged views on international and regional hotspots including the Ukraine crisis.1 Bulgaria was among the first nations to recognize the People's Republic of China,1 and the Bulgarian side expressed hope for the early establishment of direct flights between the two countries.1
