Elon Musk released a far-right film promoting violence against immigrants and government through his social media platform X, marking an escalation in his support for extremist movements across Europe.[1] The film, titled "Citizen Vigilante," was directed by German filmmaker Uwe Boll and starred actor Armie Hammer, and Musk made it available for free for 48 hours in June.[1] Despite a production budget of $2 million, the film generated approximately $600,000 in streaming revenue following its initial release.[1]
Musk's promotion of the film reflects a broader pattern of amplifying far-right content and political figures on X since his complete acquisition of Twitter in 2022, when he removed numerous content moderation rules.[1] He has publicly endorsed French National Rally leader Marine Le Pen, describing her as "France's last hope," while simultaneously spreading immigration replacement theory, anti-Muslim rhetoric, and racist material across the platform.[1] Research documented approximately 4,000 replies to posts by Musk, Lowe, and Robinson calling for violence.[1]
His stated views have grown increasingly extreme. In an interview with The Economist, Musk claimed a British civil war was "inevitable" and insisted that "out of control rape and murder" existed in the country.[1] Regarding Muslims, he declared: "If a large and rapidly growing group's beliefs are fundamentally at odds with Western beliefs, ultimately there will be a reckoning."[1]
