A tragic incident at West Mersea beach in Essex has left two people dead and a seven-year-old boy in critical condition.[1] The drowning occurred on Wednesday at 5:35 p.m. near Seaview Avenue when a sandbank suddenly collapsed during high tide, causing multiple people to be swept into the water.[1]
Shelina Rahman, a 42-year-old British-Bangladeshi teacher, and her 15-year-old daughter Sameeha died while attempting to rescue Musa Ahmed, the young boy who became trapped.[1] Musa is currently receiving intensive care at a London hospital.[1] Detective Chief Inspector Al Pitcher confirmed that the two victims "were attempting to help a seven-year-old boy in distress."[1]
Shahin Ahmed, Musa's father, has joined local residents in calling for urgent action.[1] He stated: "I strongly support the local residents' calls for a review of safety measures at West Mersea beach, including increasing life-saving equipment and clear warning signs."[1] The incident reflects a broader water safety crisis in Britain, with the National Water Safety Forum reporting at least 29 open-water accidental drowning deaths since mid-May.[1]
